Maduro Calls on Colombia for Defense Unity
Maduro emphasized that the strongest safeguard for peace and national independence in the region is found in collective “union” among allied countries. He directly encouraged Colombia’s armed forces to stand alongside Venezuela in order to prevent any external interference.
“I make my call to the people of Colombia, to its social movements, and to the Colombian military, whom I know very well,” said Maduro. “I call upon them for a perfect union with Venezuela so that no one dares touch the sovereignty of our countries.”
His appeal came in response to what he portrayed as a pattern of intensifying actions from Washington. Maduro argued that US President Donald Trump had at last "revealed his true motives" by alleging that Venezuela had taken American "oil, land, and other assets."
According to the Venezuelan leader, these claims amount to "warmongering and colonialist pretense" intended to legitimize efforts aimed at overthrowing the current government.
"The aim is to impose a puppet government that wouldn’t last 47 hours -- one that would hand over our Constitution and wealth, turning Venezuela into a colony," Maduro told supporters. "It will simply never happen."
Tensions rose further on Tuesday after Trump warned that his administration could label Maduro’s government as a Foreign Terrorist Organization (FTO). The US president also claimed on his Truth Social platform that a substantial naval force was positioned around the South American country.
