Petro Pulls Out of Munich Security Conference Amid Cordoba Flood Crisis

(MENAFN) Colombian President Gustavo Petro announced Wednesday that he will not attend the Munich Security Conference in Germany due to a weather-related emergency affecting communities in the northern department of Córdoba.

In a statement on the social media platform X, Petro highlighted the urgent situation facing Colombian citizens amid extreme winter conditions worsened by the climate crisis.

“At this moment, we continue to address the emergency in Cordoba with the entire national government,” he said. “You are not alone, and we will never leave you alone!”

Northern Colombia has recently experienced record-breaking rainfall for February, triggering a humanitarian crisis. The hardest-hit region is Córdoba, where officials report that approximately 156,000 people have been affected and roughly 80% of the area remains submerged.
